Fall is approaching, which means the San Antonio Tasting Texas Wine + Food Festival is just around the corner. On October 27-30, some of the United States and Mexico’s best chefs are coming to San Antonio to showcase their culinary talent and celebrate all things gastronomy.
Put on in tandem with the James Beard Foundation, all proceeds will benefit the foundation’s scholarship programs, which lift up minorities in the culinary arts. Here’s what to expect from the four-day epicurean extravaganza:
What to Do
Over the four-day weekend, the Tasting Texas Wine + Food Festival will feature a plethora of five-star events. Browse the event’s Culinary Market and meet dozens of top chefs. Attend a seminar to improve your own cooking skills, or listen to a panel discussion where food experts dish out industry secrets.
If you need a respite from the food frenzy, sneak over to the mercantile market, or, if you’re a mezcal fanatic, walk around Travis Park with a drink in hand. Activities will be infinite this festival weekend.
What to Eat
If there’s one guarantee for the Tasting Texas Food + Wine Festival, it’s that the food will be exceptional. The 100+ chefs slated to attend are experts in their craft, all credited by reputable outlets for improving the culinary world. The options will be seemingly endless, and unless you’re on a strict plan and have a truly insatiable appetite, you won’t be able to taste everything.
Fear not, though, because no matter what you taste, it’s bound to be excellent. Seek out your favorite chefs and try some comfort food, but discover new names and new dishes, too. From Southwest to BBQ, TexMex to classic American, fares of all types will be at your disposal.
James Beard Finalists such as Steve McHugh and Esaul Ramos Jr, as well as Michelin-star chef Rick Bayless will be in attendance, as will a hoard of other food masters.
Other San Antonio Attractions
Your trip doesn’t have to stay within the parameters of the Tasting Texas Food + Wine Festival (though we understand if it does). While in San Antonio, discover the town’s rich history and culture.
Steep yourself in the Texas art scene by visiting the town’s myriad museums and galleries or see a show at one of the many local theaters. Enjoy the city’s scenery by walking the neighborhoods or taking a boat ride on the San Antonio River.
And of course, your trip to San Antonio won’t be complete without visiting The Alamo. A UNESCO World Heritage site, The Alamo is living history, vital to the foundation and traditions of San Antonio.
